Bringing Home Rome

Williams Sonoma has a great resource for cooking Roman style at home. The informative and exciting website has recipes, wine, restaurant recommendations, and great photos. It definitely makes me want to work for Williams Sonoma and travel to Rome just to cook and EAT! Bringing Home Rome is my newest obsession-as is this soup, pasta e ceci, which takes me straight back to lunch at my old school in Rome.

Every summer Rome comes to life with a festival of music, performances, sports and exhibitions. Most of the events are outdoors and often feature famous performers. This summer Ben Harper, Duran Duran and Madonna will all be making appearances in Rome at various venues. Classical music is also a big draw, with opera performed at the Baths of Caracalla and other sites. Estate Romana (Estate means "summer" in Italian) takes place from June 1st through September.

Rome Builds a New Subway Line

As you can imagine, building a subway line through one of the world's most archaeologically crowded cities is not easy. The new Metro Linea C which began construction last year is expected to be completed in 2015 after years of careful research, excavation and construction. Each time they break ground, new discoveries will be made, new routes will have to be chosen, and history could potentially be rewritten. The construction of the new subway, while unfortunately resulting in quite a bit of destruction, will enable archaeologists to see what lies beneath the Medieval and Renaissance city. Children's Clothing in Rome: Rachele near Campo dei Fiori

You'll definitely have to work to find this little shop nestled between Via dei Cappellari and Via del Pellegrino just off the Campo dei Fiori, but it's worth it. Here you'll find clothes for newborns to 9-year olds, all designed and handmade by the Scandinavian owner, Rachele. Everything is colorful, practical, and even whimsical-especially the crocheted hats with fanciful themes like strawberries. Rachele is located at Vicolo del Bollo 6/7 and is closed on Sundays.
