The Roman Chocolate Factory

Since 1923, SAID chocolate has been providing Perugina and other famous Italian chocolatiers with the finest chocolate around. Just in time for Easter, you too can be a part of Italy's chocolate dream when you visit the SAID Antica Fabbrica del Cioccolato in the neighborhood of San Lorenzo (Via Tiburtina 135). Closed in the summer months (no proper Italian would dream of drinking hot chocolate until autumn!) SAID offers tours of its facility as well as countless chocolate products ranging from milk to dark, alcoholic to ricotta filled. There is even a restaurant if you want to make an evening of it!

A convent stay, while very cheap (think 40 euros for a double room) and no doubt picturesque, is not for the luxury traveler. Often there is a curfew and bathrooms are down the hall. But the locations are some of the best in Rome (like the Casa Santa Brigida in the Piazza Farnese, pictured) and obviously the price can't be beat. Bir e Fud in Trastevere: When You're Tired of Wine

It may seem impossible, but you could get tired of the endless array of wine in Italy. When this happens, visit Bir & Fud in Trastevere (Via Benedetta 23), a pub that serves over 100 brands of artisanal Italian beers. The "fud" is actually typical of a high-end pizzeria (delicious), but the "bir" will make you rave. Visit their blog -unfortunately only in Italian-to find out more about events going on at the pub and beers they are enjoying. You can also purchase many of the beers at their bottega , located at Via Luca Valerio in the Marconi neighborhood south of Trastevere.
